Holly by Danielle Bain

Available to buy on…

Inspired partly by an article about musician Holly Throsby and the workings of her mind.
I enjoy reading about creative and complex minds and I can identify with some of her anxieties.
I like to use metaphors to represent the state of mind, by using objects or fairytale themes that often seem simple can carry a great depth of emotive meaning.

pencil drawing.

books, chair, egg, holly throsby, leaves, magic, mushroom, nest, toadstool, wind

This is beautiful work – I can read disquiet in her face, yet also resolve. I really like your use of symbolism and fairytale imagery. I’m particularly enamoured with holly myself, which is why your title led me here. The way holly protects itself has special meaning to me, so forgive me if I lead you off on a tangent and send you here
to see the symbolism for me, and how it reveals some of the complexities & anxieties of my mind.

I’m looking forward to looking through your work……’tis very entrancing.

  • thank you for your in depth comment. i really do like using symbolism from faerytales and inventing my own symbolic idea of things… your own writing is very vivid, thank you for sharing..
