Polly Jean

A character study for an album cover and inspired by musician PJ Harvey.

This sketch carries symbolic elements,
the string and knot on the finger – memory and remembering,
‘bloody hole in chest where heart ought to be’ – represents outpouring of emotion, this contrasts the serene expression on the girl’s face.

Despite the emotional elements in this sketch, I also find it empowering, as the wounds of life only make us stronger.
