show through their paper-thin covering
veins standing out against
old parchment skin marked
by fits of rage and fear
and desperation
at what you see in your twisted mirror
of self-reflected lies
dainty brunette
turned platinum-blonde skeleton
eaten away from the outside-in
yet still you have the resolve to starve
yourself to emaciated salvation
denying your body its due
sacrificing yourself
to Fashion
‘cos you’re just dying
to be thin

And this body image is fed to young children….when I walk around department stores and see the clothes in particular for young girls and I am talking about 5 year olds…...It seems out of control….let the children be children while they are just that. .......Then they grow with images brainwashing them at every turn…..BUT there is hope because more people as yourself are able to see that there needs to be a major re-think…....Your verse is the other end of the line when the brainwash has been ‘successful’....... Love that you think about your world…..it will be take you to interesting places. XX

Empty Salvation is an apt heading indeed Elucidate!!! Takes me back to adolescence – knew quite a few girls with the self-hatred/anorexia curse. Frightens me to read how many boys are being similarly afflicted with eating disorders nowadays too. Not just because I love the band: here’s to the End of Fashion that celebrates denial, condemning its followers to emaciation

Oh WOW the way you wrote this is just mind blowing No really, I’m not kidding. You made a sad reality come alive in this piece. Too many females think that beauty is measured by how the look or what they wear. It’s easy to get swept up in this state of mind.
Emotion ran through me as I read the first part. The imagery is amazing.
And the ending is just brilliant.
‘cos you’re just dying
to be thin
Amazing. Instant favorite.

excellent writing friend. i’ve had a few anorexic friends…..tragic….they always die! it is all about the way they look or think they look….they have no idea how dreadful they look as a sack of bones in parchment skin….terrible illness….typically these people are extremely clever too and usually have more than one degree but when it comes to themselves they are totally blinded.

this is an incredible piece – really hits the mark and puts into perspective a very unbalanced take on body image. Makes me wonder if it could be used in some way by counsellors who may be helping young people with this problem. Its like an arrow, direct and clear.
