simple
and unfurnished
haunted by ghosts
of childhood
memory
green lino
faded with age
and cracking
at the edges
covers the floor
like lichen
walls
thick with the dust
of years
long passed
and forgotten
dull lime and faux pine
an ill-fated
domestic coupling
spider webs
gather in the corners
like shadows
their jaded landlords
spinning silken threads
in untiring futility
a coffee stain
adorns one wall
like an absent-minded addition
by an errant artist
in a moment
of decorative whimsy
an empty room
forgotten
and abandoned
alive
with dreams
of the past

It surely doesn’t sound empty to me. It sounds alive, very much alive. Beautiful!

Wow, this is sad. It’s alive with emotion and loneliness. The imagery is amazing.
But this line just got me:
an empty room
forgotten
and abandoned
alive
with dreams
of the past
I can feel it. This is really brilliant writing, Elucidate.
Jordan Busson replied
Thank you, Erika. I love that you can feel this :)
