March of the Yellow Stars

A poem about the Holocaust and extermination of the Jews in Nazi Germany, in World War 2. Written in when I was sixteen, last year in March. Featured in Core [C.O.R.E] and Poetry and Beautiful Women.

March of the Yellow Stars belongs to the following groups:

They walk in narrow lines,
Lines of yellow stars
Marching towards their deaths
A quick and ‘painless’ shower
In crystals of acid blue.
Gassed by a man,
But killed by a nation
Who knew no better
Than to follow orders.

Is such ignorance an excuse
For the countless deaths
The destroyed hopes
The realized fears?
No.

Why were they killed, these innocent souls?
Was it their beliefs
Their looks
Hair, eyes or skin?
No.

It was because of a man,
Because of a vision
Of a cold world
And a starless night:
A dream?

No.
A nightmare.

“It was because of a man,
    Because of a vision
    Of a cold world

Strong yet beautifully written. This topic is not always easy to write about, but you did it so tastefully and gracefully. So talented you are. :)
