It wasn’t that long ago
you and I
would never have met
eaten in the same restaurant or
shared the same bus seat,
in my fathers youth
to mix colour or creed
was a criminal offence
would you believe?
how insane when you break it down
all the same but from different lands,
still the war goes on and on
Arabs, Jews the deaths go on
children both sides terrorised
the innocent ones always die
when oh when will this all end?
or will it never till God sends
An angel down to cover us
reminding us the essence of us
true grace and loving peace that lasts
gentle promises such as paradise
Oh bless this week
that has brought change
drammatic but sad all the same
that we should cheer that he who stands
A man of colour!
…………..at long last…………………

fabulous piece of writing so emotional and so in touch with current changes… well done
Thank you Abeona – all we can do is spread a little bit of love and light in each others lives and hope that spreads so much further – time the great healer as they say….

This is an amazing and thought-provoking poem. I come from a nation that was separated by colour. My generation is blessed in that we no longer face the prejustices on the same level of our forefathers. Racism still exists, xenophobia still exists, gender biases still exist, homophobia still exists… but not on the same fierce level. Laws are into place to defeat discrimination.
Tomorrow, hopefully the sun shall set on punishing those who are different. And instead we shall see how similar we all are.
hey…. thank you so much for your comments…. xxxx
