I would have been heading in the opposite direction Elrobbo, so you earn extra points for having stuck around to photograph it! As much as my dislike for snakes, this is an excellent image! Very well done indeed!
This little bloke had been wandering around our yard for several weeks. It was actually quite cute! As you suspected, he got a bit alert once I’d come a closer, but he was eventually happy to wander on his way again in a short while! Thanks for your comments, Anthony! :)
Love the colours – and the clarity you have managed to capture of the grass and snake. And such a striking subject. Well done. I’ve had a few close encounters with these tree snakes myself and am now a lot calmer in their presence. Not sure I would hang around for a photo though!
I have to say it was pretty difficult to get the focus right on this fella! As his head & neck were so thin, the autofocus kept defaulting to the background, so I was lucky that he maintained this pose long enough for me to lock the focus at the base of his neck, and then frame the pic! Although faithful to the original shot in most ways, the colours have been treated in Lightroom. Thanks for your comment, suzyque! :)

No Mike, I’m fairly sure that it’s a Green Tree Snake (Dendrelaphis punctulata)!
Thanks for your interest!
