I used a mixture of pastels and pastel pencils on black canson pastel paper. I was pleased with the effect.

Farrrout Ross! You really blow me away with your pastel skill. This one is astonishing, and how well does THIS background work? I have never had any success with black paper, found it too ‘harsh’ or something, but you have used it with 100 percent success.

Ta Lynda. I enjoy black paper because the drama is already created with the first stroke. It takes practice to get used to thinking of how you work a little differently, building up from dark to light. It often requires no background at all.
