Artist's Description

There are many sign languages: Indian signs, sign languages for the deaf in America, Canada, France, Mexico, and other countries. There are mathematical signs, symbols for science, computer icons … they are all different. But there is one sign that represents love in any language, and that is the heart. It doesn’t matter where you live or in what language you speak. The language of love transcends all barriers. The heart is the bridge to understanding, the connection between souls. The young couple that stand at the altar of marriage, the old man who holds his wife’s hand as she passes into the afterlife, the teenager whose hands tremble as he pins the corsage on his prom date … love at many levels, but love all the same … the heart knows.
This painting is mixed media – water color, acrylic, pen and ink. Together, they merge into a colorful image that represents the love between two people that share their hearts. Hold your hands in front of your chest and touch the backs of your fingernails and the “pads” of your thumbs together. You’ve created a heart, just like the one suggested in the painting. It’s a universal sign. It’s LOVE.
