Approx 19″ × 13″ on 1/2 imperial Bockingford 300gms NOT W&N Paints painted for Just Watercolours Challenge Aug09 reference from a photo by Rinkydink called “Natures Softening” of Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Derbyshire. Really enjoyed painting this as the colours used on the photo presented quite a challenge. I didn’t want to add too much detail, but tried to echo the surreal dreamlike feeling of the photo of entering a portal into a different time and life.
This Is a wonderful interpretation. The best entry so far. Very different to mine – I’m doing mine now! I like the texture on the stone and the various colourful flowers. Exceptional.
Thanks Colin, kind of you to say so. I love painting buildings.
Oh Lindsay !!! This is gorgeous! Well done on doing this challenge. You have definitely captured the atmosphere of this lovely cottage. You stonework is fantastic and the colours great!
Thanks Debbie, As soon as I saw this photo it caught my imagination and I could see the life, birth and death that this old place had experienced . I have tried to capture that but not everyone sees things the same……..
You certainly did…… I loved the photo too, but thought it too adventurous for me!!!!

Hello Lindsay, I love the texture you have created in this piece. The archway above the door is my favourite section as it draws my eye immediately by the interesting play of colour and contrasts with the composition. Love it!

Beautiful Lindsay…love the light in the little window and the lovely stonework.
Well done on your win!!!!!! you are so good at these building’s Lindsay!…. More More More!!!! Well deserved and Congratulations!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Debbie, I really enjoyed painting this photo. The colour changes gave it a slightly ghostly quality which seemed to scream of times past and the dark portal was an invitation to step inside. I hope I have done it justice and thanks for your kind words.
