The innocent sketchings at Farnham Saturday Morning Art School and allusions to artistic ability mentioned in childhood were completely ignored until spotted again in maturity by good friend and fellow artist Chris Bailey. Channeling this towards a pre-degree foundation course in Art and Design became the first step towards my artistic journey, however economic downturn in the early 90’s meant a degree course was out of the question and I turned towards watercolour as my main interest.
Continuing along the artist’s trail of ever fluctuating confidence, ability and knowledge, I have had the good fortune to receive tuition from professional artists including Paul Ryan, Sylvia Hargreaves, Jayne Perkins, Frankie Cummins and Jean Haines. The advice and enthusiastic promotion I experienced since my first novice steps have led to a growing confidence and an exciting exploration into finding my own style.
My work has been exhibited in exhibitions in Hampshire and Surrey over the last 15 years. Painting on a permanent basis at Yew Trees Studio has given me the chance of demonstrating and advising on watercolour techniques and workshops and, above all, good friendships with many fellow artists. My paintings are a mix of commissioned work, mainly buildings, as well as subjects which catch my imagination and inspire me to paint for pure pleasure.
I am an exhibiting member of Farnham Art Society, have taken part in the Hampshire Open Studio Scheme with Yew Trees Studio and am a member of the SAA.
