The Streets Are Paved With Gold... and Red and Blue and.... by

Actually, of course in the day time they look like every day normal boring paving stones… especially in the grey boring overcast sky of the afternoon. However, coming back from a Mozart/Strauss concert, feeling happy and light and a LOT more comfortable with my surroundings/knowing where I was etc, I ended up back here. So glad that I did!!

I think the lights were pretty fixed but I don’t know if they change each night or indeed if they were only there because it was a national holiday? Having only spent one afternoon/evening there and an hour this morning grabbing breakfast before heading away again, I have no idea! Maybe ONE day I can return? Who knows? :-)

Stephansplatz, Wien, Austria. 2nd June 2011.

Canon 400d 18-55mm lens.

I use no post processing of any kind, unless stated.

Looks great and cheerful :)) like a rainbow at night…

  • Thanks! Yes, it was pretty amazing… all grey and normal when I was there before and when I had to pass at night time but so pretty at night. It was a National holiday apparently so I do not know if it is lit up at all times or just special days…. :-D

Great shot, Ellis. I think it must have been a special occasion. I’ve certainly never seen them on whenever I’ve been in Stephansplatz over the years.

  • Thank you for that, David! Apparently it was a public holiday, something I did not know, as my trip just happened to include me choosing to go via Vienna: the perks of working for the railway, you can divert yourself here or there when in Europe as long as you know in advance which countries you will be touching… :-P I went to a concert house and this was all lit up when I came back through. I was only in Austria for that one night so I did not get to see whether those lights were there all week or not :-)

    Very nice colours and composition

  • Thanks! The lights were fascinating but I know for a fact that I would have forgotten about it if I had not taken a photo… I was happy at how this one came out.
