So secret that there is a sign at the bottom. And not as high as it looks either. My penpal towered high above 6 foot and had to duck the whole way up! :-)

Bran Castle’s history can be seen here or here

As for this image: During the restoration of the castle in Queen Maria’s time (early 1900s) a secret staircase, connecting the 1st floor with the 3rd floor, was discovered in the east tower.

Bran Castle, Bran, Romania. August 2008.

Canon IXUS 850is.

I use no post processing of any kind, unless stated.

Ohhh, so spooky! I am so jealous, I think you’ve been about every place I would love to visit LOL!

  • It’s possible I guess… but you’re going to Seattle and I’ll bet you’ve been to San Fransisco and possibly Chicago or Boston… I might have been to the States several times but not seen half of what I want to see yet :-)

Oh this is so fabulous, conjures up so much creativity..outstanding:))

  • Thankyou! Wow was it hard to do this without people on there ☺ Still no idea how it was a secret staircase ;-) I had visions from too many Hammer horror Dracula movies, I think.

Amazing….makes you wonderful who has climbed those stairs…those stones are so worn, one place I’d love to visit;)

  • Well at least Vlad Tepes and some other Romanian Royalty… though now I guess it’s just a bunch of tourists ;-)

If you can get there, do. I was lucky in that my penpal in Brasov was willing to drive me wherever I wanted to go. :-) This was a must of course!!

    great image … but spooky:)

  • Thanks! I thought it would have been a lot spookier (being brought up on Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing horror movies) but actually there was nothing TOO spooky apart from a close up of a grasshopper/cricket that I was able to take (through a sealed window may I add!!)

These steps were steep though and there were many of them. It was great being able to wait just that little bit longer for there to be just one person at the top.

Nice one, I must go on a diet before thinking to go through that :-)

  • Hey, I got through there and survived ;-) It is pretty narrow though, you’re right… and steep.
