So, now that “Visual Puzzles” exists….

Who can tell me where you would most likely find a sight like this. (I do not mean town/city etc…)

Or what you think it could be used for.

There’s a right answer to where this particular one was but I would be very interested to see what people come up with regarding the usage. Honestly? I don’t know for sure! So keep the answers coming in and just haev some fun!

When someone has correctly identified where this sort of thing is found in a generic location (I see this in every similar generic location btw), I shall add the geographical location. No-one would need to guess that… unless they know it!!

Canon 400d 75-300mm lens.

I use no post processing of any kind, unless stated.

I think of a quay (or wharf) and I guess that it is used for attaching boats with a rope.
for example in Venice! But I may be all wrong :)

  • It COULD very well have been… however this was not close enough to the water for it too have moored boats. I will agree that while coastal, as you can see from the rust, this was not at a quay or a wharf (or marina or anywhere near a boat) :-)

Then we could use it for attaching horses at a fountain where they can have a drink! (I find out that I’m not only hungry, but also thirsty!)

  • Not a fountain in sight, sorry… not even a fountain nearby could cause this much rust :-D

you must remove it from the group and then submit again!

  • Could do, but there are other unsolved ones too… Hmmm…. yes, that is a good idea… I shall do that at home :-D

A concrete weight, with this on top to attach it to crane ?

  • Hi and welcome: I don’t think that there were cranes here.

    Tank trap ?

  • What is a tank trap? Like a bear trap for tanks? :-P Seriously erm, probably not. (remember I can ask what there this is commonly found (and in England I have seen a LOT of them scattered around!) but that I cannot answer its exact purpose!)

Is it a tie-down point for small airplanes at an airport?

  • Welcome!! Thankyou for stopping by! No, it’s not at an airport… I imagine this pre-dates aircraft :-D

Perhaps a place to attach a prisoner’s chain to prevent escape.

(don’t know why that thought popped into my head)

  • It’s plausible I guess. I honestly don’t know… that’s just one piece of the puzzle :-)

The one thing that I do know is the type of place, dotted around the UK that this is usually found…

Haha… I am of course seeing a lot of ye olde worlde prisoners tied with rope to this and dancing around it… :-)

    Anywhere near a lock ?

  • No but stick with the idea of watery places.
