If Cockatoos are (IMO) the pigeons of Australia, I think that Galahs are up there with the sparrows or starlings. Certainly up in the Dandenongs where daytrippers go to see the parrots, cockatoos and other fantastic native birdlife.

This one was a lot healthier than another shot in the blue mountains and did not seem worried by my telephoto lens watching him peck for crumbs of goodness.

Dandenong Mountains, Victoria, Australia. 3rd November 2009.

Canon 400d, 75-300mm lens.

I use no post processing of any kind, unless stated.

Oh, the gorgeous little pet (he would be a pet in the USA)!

  • Thanks! He is a pet on the Australian show “Neighbours” too…. but probably shouldn’t be, as they are wild animals after all! I did not know they had galahs in the US… I shall look out for some when I am next there :-D

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and see/comment on my work :-)

Oh, I don’t think we actually do have galahs here but we would if we could!

  • Thanks. Sorry that I did not see this. I just googled and they are called “Rose Breasted Cockatoos” in the US.

Lovely capture – he/she looks quite concentrated on his/her food

  • Thanks. All the tourists (and some locals!) were up there feeding the birds and this little fellow fascinated me :-)
