I’ve started a blog entry on my website about what to wear for portraits. I’ve posted what I generally tell people based on my portrait sittings which are generally outdoors and involve both color and and black and white. I’m interested in experiences and thoughts from other photographers. If you have a chance, I’d really appreciate feedback and thoughts!
Thanks, as always, to my fellow red bubblers!

Interesting and very informative Ellie.
Someone did tell me to ask people not to wear diamonds, earings etc.
Would you agree, and why not wear diamonds ? To much sparkle would it be ?
Richard.

I have heard not to wear ‘flashy’ accessories. Basically anything that will distract from their faces. I have found that the ‘flesh-toned’ clothes end up blending too much – especially if the photos are black and white. I’ve also experienced hot pink and bright red creating issues in color portraits. Also, the darker tones create beautiful contrast in b/w. I’m definitely curious about any issues people have personally encountered! Thanks for always giving feedback, Richard!

I’m open to anything people want to go with, because at the end of the day, a comfortable sitter makes for a better photograph… providing it works with the background we are shooting on. White on white can be a disaster, depending on the sort of photo people want, same with black on black.
