Hi All,
I finally have my website up and running! If you would like to check it out:
I’m happy with it and I have put a ‘watermark’ on the images – but I am still noticing people are downloading images. I feel if I make the watermark larger, it will take away from the image, but I also want to protect my work.
How are other people handling this? Any advice?
Thanks!
ellie

You can get a little piece of script to stop people right clicking on your site however this will only deter the ‘honest’ theives (which may be all you really need to do). Other than that, it’s like anything… if someone really wants it there will be ways of getting it.
I appologise for being so blunt about it but that is simply the reality of putting the work on the internet. The best you can hope for, is that who ever uses it as a screen saver keeps your logo on it and you can then consider it advertising. LOL
Other than that all I can suggest is that you keep the resolution and quality as low as possible in order to stop reproduction.
Hope this helps a little.
Cheers.
BTW… very nice site. :)

Hi there, I’d love to know too. Disenchanted – where do you get the “little piece of script’ from?
Ellie Winds in reply to Disenchanted’s comment, 7 months ago
thanks so much! i tried to use low resolution images – so they won’t be able to enlarge them clearly…and i suppose with my logo there – i can consider it advertising! :) can you tell me anymore about the script to keep people from right clicking?

hi cathleen, i asked about the script, i’ll let you know if i find out more!

I had a concern about loading my photos on red bubble….I still not too sure…
however for my web site (when it is ready to go) I will be putting a transparent layer over top adn if people try to copy it all they will get is my trade name and copyright info specific to the image file. I will ask my friend to email the procedure, and when I get the info I will pass it on

96 DPI and there is nothing people can do with it, unless they are Photoshop pros and piece it back to print quality but eventhen they won’t be able to make huge prints out of it.

love your site….and stunning work.

If you resize your images so as to make them smaller on your web-site it will make it very difficult for anyone to use them, just make sure you keep the master copy on your computer at their original size so you are in a position to sell prints. Hope this helps.

thanks, camerashy. i resized the images -but i still see downloads… i’m sure they won’t be able to do much with the images – but i was surprised people would download with the watermark and the low quality!

beautiful site :)
did you use a website builder?
Ellie Winds in reply to silveraya’s comment, 7 months ago
thanks! it was all created through squarespace.com. i don’t mind advertising for them as i’ve found it very reasonable priced, very easy to use, and they’ve answered all my questions within 24 hours. i had a friend that was familiar with it help me build the foundation and show me how to maintain it myself – but if I had the time and patience it is fairly intuitive… hope that wasn’t too much info!

To disable the right click you can add this little piece of javascript to your pages -
function right(e) {
var msg = “Sorry, you don’t have permission to right-click.”;
if (navigator.appName 'Netscape' && e.which 3) {
alert(msg);
return false;
}
if (navigator.appName 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' && event.button2) {
alert(msg);
return false;
}
else return true;
}
function trap() {
if(document.images) {
for(i=0;i

Okthat didn’t work as it lost off half the characters when I pasted it! Just take it from here instead – http://javascript.internet.com/page-details/disable-images-click.html
