I Saw 1957 age 14

I saw the child, afraid and weak
sitting alone by the roadside

I saw her hollow tear stained cheek
had lost it’s radiant glow of pride

I saw her turn her weary back
her painful fear to hide

I doubted then my Father’s will
and wondered, does he love us still

and as I prayed to God above
to spare this child a little love

I saw a woman unlike the rest
hold that dear child to her breast

She closed her eyes
now she could rest

I doubted no longer my Father’s willl
I saw Him prove he loves us still

I Saw 1957 age 14 by

I wrote this poem in 1957 at the age of 14
and got a failing grade on it

The teacher thought she had heard it before
I desided then to write for me and wondered if anyone would
ever think I could write a good poem
