Awe, what a cute photo. What’s the life expectancy of a rat? We had two bunnies that had to be put to sleep within weeks of each other. I think the last one was heart broken to be without his partner and just went downhill real fast! It’s amazing how that works. Our pets become like family members and it’s always hard to see them go. Sorry for your loss.

I’m so sorry Moppy and his brother have passed on to the Rainbow Bridge. They were very special boys and I have loved every one of the photographs you posted of them. Truly special companion animals earn wings when they get to the Bridge. I’m sure both of your boys are fluttering around on their wings with my Big Sillies now having a ball and enjoying their perfect, healthy bodies.

Ellen, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your other rat baby so soon after you lost the first one, One has to wonder if missing his buddy. might have contributed to this little guy’s passing. As sad as it is, it will pass, and whether or not you will carry on with these critter photos with another pair of critters is entirely up to you, but regardless of your decision, you will always have your fond memories of the two critters who started it all for you. Oh dear Ellen, how sad, but at least Witje is no longer suffering! Ratties are such wonderful friends and when they leave us, we miss them so much! I have lost 4 ratties through the vagaries of disease and old age and it was so traumatic! Please, please remember you gave your boys such a full and wonderful life – I can see that in their photos!!! ;o) x

Ellen, I have tears reading this story but, like Krys said, you certainly gave them a wonderful life. It is one of the hardest things in life to lose a beloved pet, but know that if you love them, you’ll see them again. I’m thankful to have seen your work…it makes me grateful to know there are people like you who love animals the way I do. It doesn’t matter how small, or breed, or whatever; our pets are a huge part of our lives. When we lose them there is a whole that is incredibly hard to fill. My daughter had a rat (much to my initial oh no—not a rat!) and it did not take long to win me over. I am very sorry for you. You have some great memories in the way of your photographic work, but Ellen, even if you lost them your little “peebles” will always be in your memory and heart. I am sitting here with my very old dog at my feet, knowing that her time is limited. She thinks she is a puppy still, but I know better. Heather
