New Women’s Chiffon Tops. They’re just so chiffon-y.

small town.

if i don’t wake up
i’ll drown
my dreams are too big
for this little town.

all it has to offer
day after day
is more and more
rain.

and a river of faces
crusted
with wrinkles counting
their lost dreams.

people who settled
safely here to do the
same thing
day after day.

while all their friends
moved far away
to make something
of themselves.

you get stuck here.
they erase your
ambitions and replace it
with vague memories
of what could have been.

and if they catch you
daydreaming
you better reply with,
‘nothing, i’m just tired’.

continue till 5pm.
return home to your family
repeat your day -
for each is like the other.

go to bed.
pretend to sleep.
but lay awake
planning your escape.

next day:
mechanically wake,
comfortably begin
the monotony, as if nothing is wrong.

thinking, ‘me?
i don’t dare to be
different, that’s
far too scary.’

small town.
