Mode One Knowledge, is what is seen to be a more traditional form of information sharing and exchange, this certain is having a considerable less presence in todays educational and professional scene. Typically mode one knowledge is a straightforward ‘injection’ of information, which is a very one sided concept to learning. This concept includes a ‘teacher’ administering information through a clearly defined structure to those who are in a ‘students’ position. This form of knowledge typically does not allow for fluctuations in content or topic. Compared to Mode one knowledge, Mode two focuses on the experience gained through learning. It embraces transdisciplinary fields in all educational areas to produce a learning style that is like no other.
Our society is ever changing, this means not only changes in society but all areas of life including the professional world. One of the major changes that is occurring is the introduction and development of a new way of thinking, Mode 2 Knowledge. Mode 2 Knowledge structurally very different to the traditional forms of learning and educating. It utilizes the notion of a transdisciplinary approach to learning. This includes differences in medium, and how it is experienced especially. These new experiences in come through television, periodical editions, Cultural films and documentaries, pod casts, other mobile technology and the vast world wide web.
In this modern society the emerging demand for this new knowledge calls for a constant development and change. Mode 2 Knowledge gives the opportunity to experience and adopt these changes in a first -hand position. Experiencing these changes we are seeing the adaptation by professionals, educators and learners, and utilising different resoucres from numerous fields of learning. As in the 21st century, our society is looking always for original options to use in the professional and educational institutions, conceptually Mode 2 Knowledge provides this. It operates in a form that utilizes many different faculties of knowledge from different areas, such as economics, business, culture and science. These are combined to develop and research new techniques and structures in how research, develop, and teach.
Creative entrepreneurship and cultural industries are booming business’ of the twenty-first century and with the emergence ok Mode 2 Knowledge has presented both negative and positive impacts on the aforementioned industries. The emergence of Mode two knowledge has brought a very specific focus to the cultural and creative industries. This is recognised through the newly appointed grants and funding by the federal government that is for the development of the creative industries. Mode 2 Knowledge, is also considerably impacting on creative licensing. It has opened up many new pathways for entrepreneurs to take bigger steps in overcoming traditionally structured professionalism and educative forms. Mode 2 Knowledge and focus on creative Industries has impacted those budding entrepreneurs or artists whom wish to involve themselves in the creative Industries. The opportunities come through utilizing the aforementioned mediums, and also through the development of programs like the ‘V-Raw’ where vacancies in the occupations in the creative industries, are opened to all. This focus’ not on the experience they have had, but the knowledge they will gain from that experience. However with Mode 2 Knowledge and its notion of no longer adhering to traditional structural properties of an educational experience presents some a few obstacles and challenges which impede the quality, a definitive and concept of work. With overcoming the traditional structure of professionalism and lack of formalized education, opens the slate for what is seen as maybe too much variance of information that is being offered.
Another challenge presented by Mode 2 Knowledge and the Creative industries, is the constant strive for originality. However with Mode 2 Knowledge does not open a chance for complete originality with in work whether it is creative or business oriented. Intellectual Property laws must also being taken into consideration, so that correct recognition, and patents are applied, Mode 2 Knowledge may jeopardize these in someway. Mode 2 Knowledge does provides many opportunities to learners, educators and professionals. Stepping out of the traditional confines makes available to entrepreneurs a non-restrictive workplace, entitling creative freedom. It also gives to learners a chance to be educated to experience training and learning in a way that learners are able to consider every option to answer or work to a task.

This new level is bound to contain standards that previously we were not able to formerly attain. This form of knowledge does share some similarities with Mode 1 Knowledge, in the way that is a structured approach to the subject area in which is being taught. It is also similar to the Mode 2 format, as it is based on using a transdiciplinary approach in educating and gaining a full understanding of the topic, buy using examples and other experiences to fully understand the concept of a specific knowledge base. The progression from Mode 2 knowledge to Specific Base Knowledge is a transition that we are not able to decisively to predict because of our ever changing society, we are always presented with new opportunities to develop and hone our skills in the workplace.
