My family is lucky enough to have a prosperous little cumquat tree lurking in our front yard. Once every two years, we get a huge load of vivid fruits off it, which we wash, rinse, and then make into delicious marmalade – so much that it lasts until the next time the tree fruits! This is, I guess, a tribute to all the vivacity and brilliance of those childhood rituals that never seem to go away.
