Tired tourists by Ell-on-Wheels

Canon 50D, 50mm f1.8
Available light (September afternoon, Paris)
Colour conversion to b/w, minor post-ed trim, contrast/brightness adjust

Actually prefer the colour version, the marble (?) columns are a glorious honey colour, but
there is a very distracting purple banner in the background I just couldn’t avoid :-(

365 Day Project – street – day 18

Noticed on the front steps of ‘Le Grande Palais’ … being a tourist can surprisingly be quite tiring …
got sprung taking this, so had to feign interest in taking an image of a nearby ‘doorway’ ;-)

Great shot. I think I see that pesky purple banner! :) The person really puts the size of the columns into perspective, hey?

  • Haha! Yes, top right hand corner – blasted thing!! ;-))
Was so pleased to see these two relaxing on the column base, but got sprung by the gent ;-)
… oh well … thank you Bree :-)))

The scale of size is wonderful Ell!

  • It’s ENORMOUS! … LOL, such an understatement!! ;-))
And ohhhh soooo beautiful! Would have loved to go inside for a look, but we didn’t have time – on the list for next visit … thank you Jordan :-)

Great capture! Love those columns and how they dwarf the couple.

  • Miguel, thank you :-))
The columns are at least double the height again than in the pic, couldn’t fit it all in with the 50mm ;-)
very happy with what I captured though, even if I got sprung! :-)))

Talk about things coming together. Perfectly posed candid subjects actually make me sense how long ago the building was created! Didn’t even see the banner til read of it. :)

  • Hello Lucin!! :-)))
Spying this couple made me wish for a telephoto lens, as the weary look on the lady’s face was wonderful, snuggled into her husband’s chest as she is – had to be content with what I could get :-)
The Palace building?? Just ohh so grand and devine! Designers of the day really had a sense of grandure and style, AND made it all happen without the use of modern day aids like we have … that is what has me staring in disbelief at such a structure!! :-)))

Beautiful photo! The tones are great and your choice of composition really shows off the architecture as well as the scale. Great work!

  • Damienne, thanks sooo much for the encouraging comment :-D
It’s a massive building, and impossible to get into one image, unless from a plane ;-)
Happy with how this turned out, given the ‘restrictions’ of the 50mm :-)))

wow… look at the awesome detail on those columns …perfect in B&W… well done

  • Maria, thank you kindly :-)
… really wasn’t able to do this gorgeous building justice, these HUGE structures are just one (of many!) “must see” for yourself! Content though with what I could get into the 50mm :-))

Nice comp. What a simply adorable couple. Could they have sat together anymore romantic for this shot. Just Perfect. They nicely draw you through the scene to them.
