Wonderful capture, Ell. The red umbrella is striking, but it’s reflection is what really does it for me!! Nice shot of the old GPO too :o))

  • Thank you Vince :o)) … appols for the tardy reply :o/
I’m a nut when it comes to shiney things, including reflective surfaces! :-D The old GPO has been grande of late with all sorts of wonderful images :o)))

Wonderful 50mm work Ell, I concur with Vincent – love the reflection!

  • Thank you Gwynne :o)) The 50mm has become my fave lens for all sorts of images, especially street … purchased a Sigma 10-20 a few days ago though, itching to try this on the street!! :-D Ohh! and landscape too of course! ;o))

Beautiful work. Lovely effect with the reflection :)

  • Thank you Cassandra :o))
The recent floods have been devastating as you well know, but rain (in moderation!) can be great for images! :o)))

The reflections are fantastic! Is the sidewalk granite or concrete ?

  • Thanks so much James :o) … apolls for the tardy reply :o/
I’m inclined (but guessing!) to say the pavement is granite, given the sections and age of the GPO, but really can’t be sure … so much of Melb’s old footpaths have been replaced with ‘safer’ concrete, which doesn’t lift and unexpectedly trip people up :o/

As you will come to find – a prime lens – a single size not a zoom – will give pinsharp images and great depth of field and cool colours. Reflections in water as a result of rain are always atmospheric. Love the REDS, THE BLUES, the columns in the water and the flags in the background.
Wot a composition (excellent), love the scale of the people in the shot and the guy who didnt quite dress for the weather !!!

  • Hiya Paul :o))
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment/s, appreciated as always :o)))
Love my little prime, but will have to replace it soon with an upgrade, f1.8 is not quite built for the ‘over use’ it gets ;o))
Once upon a time (in a former life as a cyclist) used to hate the rain … but as a ‘photographer’, now love it when it rains for the endless ‘shiney/reflective’ image opportunities! :-D
