Taken from a stairwell diagonally across from this waiter … got into a lot of trouble (told off in no uncertain terms by the Chef!! in 2nd image below) for being in the wrong place: doorway to the cafe’s dishwashing room! Meh … ;-)

Can’t decide if that light across his face is from the hanging glasses above, or perhaps from a metal serving tray …?

Wonderful capture Ell, great light too, I think the light on his face is the refracted light off the glasses. bloody chefs huh, I’ve had a few chef clients when designing restaurants and they’re very, let’s say “spirited” lol

  • Hehe, maybe I should call one of the side-images “spirited” then … thanks so much Jus, and I reckon you’re right about the refracted light :-))

The important thing is that you got told off after you got the pictures. Next time ask the person if they own the light that reflects from them. I like this “People at work” series a lot!

  • Haha! Already got into enough trouble, didn’t need to encourage anymore more from overuse of a smart mouth! ;) Want to be allowed for a return visit some day, hehe :)
    Thanks so much :))

Great shot Ell, you’re more game than me!

  • Thanks Deb :)
Thing is, didn’t realise I was in the ‘wrong spot’ or that I was about to get seriously told off, until Chef started striding towards me! (4th pic) As I scuttled out of there, I did appologise :)

Taking the risk of being told off is one of the things that makes candid photography so real. I look at so many submissions here where the photographer just hasn’t taken enough risk and so the essence of the shot is missed.

This is a great shot. You never know it might even get featured this week.

    Also a great series.

  • Chris, I try not to invite ‘trouble’ but sure got into it here ;-)
Thank you so very much for your wonderful comment :)))

Ooh fascinating light and I had to look twice, that guy reminds me quite a lot of Anthony Callea. Great series Ell.

  • Haha! I so hope Anthony isn’t waiting tables anymore ;-)
    Thanks very much Georgie :)))
