The Old Plantation: originally built in 1910 in Medicine Park, OK in the Wichita Wildlife Refuge that’s located next to my hometown-Lawton/Ft.Sill.
Medicine Park during the roaring 20’s was a place for the rich & elite to vacation-1st Oklahoma resort. At this time the building was known as the “Outside Inn” & the “Grand Hotel”. Once it changed hands, a whiskey still & gambling room were erected in the basement, the main room became a ballroom, & the 3rd floor was where the “pretty ladies” lived & rumored to show dirty movies. In 1966, Rex & Ruby Leath (she was known to all as grandma) bought the building & ran it for 35 years known as the restaurant, The Old Plantation. It was opened again in 2008; it’s been remodeled but a lot of the original building is still intact. They are back to serving good food & drink as well as filled with old stories & rumors of being haunted. The employees say Grandma haunts the restaurant & ghost investigators say that other spirits from the past haunt the rest of the building. It’s a building rich with history & stories that I’ve grown up with since I was a child.
