Burntside Lake
This is Burntside Lake in Ely, Minnesota. I spent a week there with this being the view out my cabin window. Each day the sunset was a little different or a lot different. This is my favorite of all of them.

Peter, Thank you! This was a long exposure of 3.6 seconds. I used a tripod to steady it. Aperature was F/16 and focal length was 18mm. I also used a graduated neutral density filter to get the sky closer to the water in terms of exposure. My first real experimenting with the grad ND and I’m so glad I got it!

I can’t remember the cabin number. It was something like 30 or 23, but I really can’t recall. When we booked it they told us it had the best sunset view which was enough to make me happy. The cabin was a super nice one-bedroom, with a kitchen/dining room, and screened in porch. It’s right on the water, in fact it’s a straight drop off to the water at the end of the stairs with some room under the porch for setting up a tripod.
This last year was our first trip to Ely, and we fell in love. Went twice in fact, and I know we’ll be back this year too. We’ll just have to remember which cabin to book!
