I love to travel. By the time I was 5 years old I’d already been on three continents. My family had moved to Africa and we were ready to be introduced to African wildlife. My first trip to Kruger National Park, and therefore, my first exposure to animals in the wild was shortly thereafter.
At six years of age I wanted to be a zoologist. Strange idea for a six year old, but it was the only job I knew of where I thought I could work with animals. I’d thought about being a veterinarian, but I didn’t was to see hurt animals, so that left zoology.
At nine years of age I wanted to write a book on cheetahs – the definitive book on cheetahs. I had high aspirations it seems. I was somewhat obsessed with the idea, and I really wish I kept those early drafts. They contained fact I’d gotten from the encyclopedia and cheetah pictures from my animal coloring books…
I love wildlife. I love seeing a wild animal in it’s natural habitat. I feel privileged to have grown up in South Africa where I could see so many animals so often. My love of photography has grown out of that love for the wild. I want to be able to capture what I see and share that with other people.
