Whidbey Island by

Last fall I had the pleasure of going for a drive with my husband and a friend to Whidby Island, just north of Seattle Washington. We took the ferry over from Edmond’s and drove up north to the bridge at Deception Pass. It was such a beautiful day. The sun was out and the air was crisp, just a little cool……almost fall, but not quite. As I worked on the background of this piece these past weeks, I remembered that day and thought of all the images I had taken. A cottage farm by the lake was one of my favorite images of the day…….I couldn’t resist the shot.
I often long to live in a place like this. Quiet and peaceful. It felt like a perfect fit for my woodland scene.
I hope you enjoy my blend of images…….and the place that inspired me, “Whidbey Island”

I love the organic overlay. The colors are beautiful. Your squares at the base, makes it look as if the light is shining on a film strip, and the movie is playing….

  • Thanks Frannie, I have been working on this for quite a while. I wish I had the time and patients to show the steps,,,,,,I sure hope to some day…….I learn a new thing with every piece……and doing the banners really added to my knowledge. I had the squares more like a checker thinking to cover the whole piece, but when I added the little farm it came to me to simplify and just add then as a focus on the buildings and the water….I just love how the trees came out.
Thanks again…….I always love hearing your thoughts and I never would have thought of a film strip, but yet it does look like that.

I love it too E, the squares remind me of a cosy quilt. Beautiful colours :))

  • Thanks so much Karen…..I had such great fun working on this……and I am thrilled with how it came out. The shot I had of the farm/cottage from the island was out of focus a bit as my husband will NEVER stop the car for a shot. So I was a bit sick about it…….it’s such a perfect scene……so I will thrilled to find a way to use it. Hope you are having an awesome day. e

I have no idea how you did any of this Elizabeth but the end result is just magnificent work. The warm tones and homey quality of the squares at the bottom are set off perfectly by the reds and turquoise of the overlay. Truly gorgeous!

  • Thank you so much Lianne……I have to say that I am not quite sure what I all did either…….lol…….those are my favorite kind of works……but I am always worried I will forget to save or that the computer will crash……..nooooooooooooo……well it didn’t, thank goodness…….but it did feel the strain!!

Love this, Elizabeth. I love the feeling I get that the sky continues on while the buildings and life below it (in more segmented portions) goes on, always apart or oblivious to it.

  • Maureen, I am so glad that you like the sky here as I was a bit worried that it would feel to disjointed…….but it is meant to be segmented and it felt right to me. To me the sky also felt like an aerial view of the earth……and the sky is actually water…….I liked that bit of a twist……thanks so much!!

A wonderful composition Elizabeth. The explosion red in the leaves and branches directs my eyes to the frames below. Theres a very nice flow of energy and a feeling of serenity in the image. You obviously mixed all that in while putting this together. Beautiful!

  • Thanks so much Richard…….I found and added the farm/cottage scene just yesterday and I just loved how it worked……I had all these components like the squares just hanging in the balance, waiting for their queue…..they needed something to be on top of or to filter over as it turned out ……I love when it all comes together like a puzzle.
