Acrylic Painting on Canvas 30″×24″

This painting was done from a photo that I had taken many years ago of my step dad. In the breakfast room, the subject of many of my photos. The light is very bright in the morning and he would always sit and read his paper from the first page to the very last. He loved the news. I think he was quite tickled when I asked him to pose those many years ago. But he never got to see the finished painting. Oh well, somehow I believe he sees it now.

I am inspired by everything in life.
Nature, landscape, city life and more.
Over 25 years as a flight attendant has let me see life from every angle. On the road my camera and Mac are my constant companions. At home, it’s hard to find me with out a paint brush in hand.
No matter what, as long as I am creating I am content.
Thanks for viewing my work!!

This is another outstanding painting Elizabeth, from the thumbnail I thought it was a camera shot with really cool lighting and to discover it is a painting with really cool lighting is even better!

    excellent painting, Elizabeth

  • Thanks so much Solomon. I finally got a day that I could take good photos of some of my paintings. Inside light just doesn’t work.

Great portrait …… subdued yet powerful.

  • I appreciate your kind comments very much. I do often think of doing more work on this piece. It was my first portrait in acrylic and I think it still needs more attention. But I love it just the same. Thanks!!

cezanne immediately came to mind as he painted his father reading the paper (realize the above is your step father)- wonderful use of light and shadow- you paint beautifully- almost wish there were more-

  • It’s funny, but even though it is my step dad, I see my dad as well…….my step dad and my real dad kind of blended into each other. (I wish there had been more time with him, he died in 85) I have yet to do a painting of my dad, but I would love to. I still see him clearly.
I think looking at your journey of painting has made me realize how personal it is “The Journey of a painter” There’s so much of our history woven into every stroke of the brush.
This was a first for me, my first acrylic portrait…..I just felt it as I went. I didn’t draw it out. I was really surprised that it turned out as well as it did!
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments.
