Today I visited the Flight 93 crash site. It is the third time I have visited the area and still have that amazing feeling that I am in the site of America’s newest heroes.
America and the world have left memorials to these heroes, beads, hats; crosses, small statues and written messages are there. There are volunteers that speak to you with a history of the passengers and crew of the airplane.
The flags are a salute to the heroes and America.
The first flag is the flag of the United States of America, flag of honor. This flag contains the names of those killed in the terrorist attack on 9-11. The names of the heroes are written on the red and white stripes of the flag, but I couldn’t see the names on the flag. Not sure about my vision at my age.
The second flag is the Flight 93 Hero Flag. It is the American flag with the stars replace with 93 surrounded by a circle of 49 small stars. The words “Our nation will eternally honor the heroes of flight 93” are written on the top 3 white stripes.
The third flag is the National Remembrance Flag. The blue on each side represents the color of the state flags where a plane was downed, NY, Pa and Va. The black represents the sorrow for the loss of life, the towers, and the Pentagon and rescue workers who lost their lives during the rescue. The stars represent the 4 planes, the blue one for the Pentagon and Flight 77, the 2 white stare represent each of the Twin Towers and AA Flight 11 and UA Flight 175. The red star represents UA Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville, PA. The star colors of red, white and blue represent the colors of the USA flag. All stars are touching, representing unity in the United States of America.
The 4th flag is the Freedom Flag is Virginia’s representation of a promise never to forget 9/11/01. White star: for all who lived and died for freedom, 4 white bars: the Pentagon, Top red stripe: bloodshed at the Pentagon and AA Flight 77, Two Broad Red stripes, the Twin Towers and the AA Flight 11 and UA Flight 175. Bottom Red stripe: the crew & passengers on UA Flight 93 in Pa. Three white Stripes, rescue workers and employees who worked during & after terrorist attacks.
The fifth flag is the 9/11 Remembrance Flag. There are 4 stars representing each plane, a pentagon to represent the Pentagon, 2 columns to represent the Twin Towers, a circle to represent unity that occurred after the tragedy of Americans, the red represents the blood shed in the past, present, and future of all Americans, and God Bless America, our hope and faith of our nation.
Taken April 19, 2010 near the town of Shanksville, Pa.
Canon 50D, f/13, 1/320 sec., ISO 400.

Nice memorial and nicely captured. We need to remember them, they gave their lives to save others.
Thanks so much Eric. This is an example of the type of heroism portrayed greatly in the past when America was a colony of England and when we became a country. We usually don’t need this type of activity now, but as Americans we still have that drive to survive as a free nation.
