Inner Nature
A year ago we had a devastating fire in our community which destroyed an ancient transitional ecosystem of extraordinary beauty. One of my reactions at the time was this overwhelming desire to create permanence with my work. I wanted to print on metal. I wanted something stronger than paper to commit my images to.
Yesterday I was telling Annie that I realized that paper is my medium. The fact that it is fragile, that it rips apart, easily stains, can be dissolved, burns, all these qualities make it so much more compatible with the pathos of my own soul. I want to understand the alchemical secrets of it’s botanical body. Each paper has it’s own true nature, and how that energizes the images I work with, this is something I want to experience.

Elena, this is beautifully written, you have a real way with words, they are just as passionate and delicate as your work

Elena, very interesting thoughts – this discussion resonates with my most recent journal entry (sorry, don’t know how to do links here). I find this a fascinating subject.

Very moving, Elena. I can relate to what you’ve said and envy the way you’ve expressed yourself.

Elana, your work is absolutely wonderful. I love the sensitive nature of what you’ve written in your profile. A piece in your portfolio that I particularly love is “Inner Nature”http://www.redbubble.com/works/show/55572
