A fractal. A crescent made up mostly of many many copper discs of various sizes.

Created using mars and expanded using phobos (see my public profile).

I’m a software engineer and I’ve been interested in the artists possibilities of fractals since about 1987. It wasn’t until 2010 that I started producing very high resolution pictures using my own software.

a beautiful mandelbrot, lovely colour and composition, :-)

  • If you’re not technically minded disregard the following paragraph.

The formula used for this is z = tan(cz), the method is the same as for generating the Mandelbrot set except that the initial value of z can’t be zero so the initial value is as as though the set was a Julia so it is a hybrid Mandelbrot/Julia set. The complex plane has been transformed using the inverse square root.

I’m glad you like it as it’s one my favourites and was one of the first pictures I uploaded to Red Bubble. I discovered RB some time after deviantArt (where I’m also element90) I’m slowly adding pictures from DA as I have to regenerate pictures uploaded to DA as they are too big for RB.
