About Eldon Ward

My artwork is primarily focused on painting using water based media; often on recycled building materials. Many works comprise multiple salvaged hollow-core doors. “Mural” sized works – combining applied components with direct wall painting are also available. I received a BFA from Colorado State University in 1975 and returned to painting in 2009 after a 30 year career as an urban designer. Artworks have been purchased or commissioned by a number of private parties and public entities.

beautiful play with shapes Eldon!your work has such a precision!the following bubbles give a nice bit of spice to it!
and I always ask to myself:but what is salvaged hollow core door?

  • Thank you for your encouraging comment, Agnes. Yes, I’m all very concerned with precision: which is a big part of why it takes me a month or so to finish a painting.

In the 1970’s american builders used many cheap, ugly doors (hollow with a thin veneer) in new houses. Now, as people remodel, they up-grade the doors in their homes, and the hollow-core doors typically end up in a land-fill. I rescue these sad doors and manipulate them into more appropriate proportions, and use them instead of canvases for paintings. (Probably more than you really wanted to know about "salvaged Hollow core doors).

Japan, they always have and I"m sure they always will… fine salvage job, great paint Eldon

  • Thanks for your comment, Banrai. I wish you continued success with your efforts to help those in need in Japan.

A beautifully detailed work in a new color palette that I love. Gorgeous painting. I can’t think of a better use for a hollow core door ! :)

  • That is very kind of you, Mary Ann. I have to admit, I greatly envy your abilities in abstract works. Thanks again.

Congratulations on your feature Eldon! I like the use of colours and the interaction of sharp edges with the softer ‘rounder shapes’ well done! Thats a big size, but it looks impressive ‘in the flesh’

  • That’s very nice of you to say, Wendy. I really do appreciate you looking it over. My paintings are made from old doors – often multiple doors – so many are larger than this one.

  • Thanks, too for the “favorite.” I was out of town last weekend and nearly missed that and your comment; which would have been a shame: I do value your opinion and – especially – our RB friendship.
