Harbors Board Building at Port Adelaide
This is the Harbors Board Building in Port Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. It is of the Art Deco period but I have not been able to find much info about it online. So, if anyone knows anything about the building, I’d love to hear it. I do know that Harbor is spelt the American way and not the English way, which is unusual.
This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D.

Elana, if you wanted to know more you could search SA Heritage listings, it may be reigisted, or the local govt. council may have the architectural drawings etc on file or failing that the state library may have more in thier archives. I’ll have a gander myself and see if can dig up anything

I’m not familiar with this building Elana, but I do love what you’ve captured here. This wonderful, rich, blue sky gives perfect definition to the beautiful Art Deco stylings of this remarkable building. Great job! Len

Philip Johnson
great building thanks for adding it to art deco heaven
Elana Bailey replied
Philip, you are most welcome. I love the colours and the design. Cheers.
Philip Johnson
interesting that harbor spelling there must be a story behind it
Elana Bailey replied
There is and I can’t remember it. I saw something about it on the net somewhere….sorry. I think that many places or names in SA were spelt using the USA version and not the UK way, which was strange. Harbors was one of them.
Philip Johnson
sounds like a question for that ABC show “Can We Help YOu” lol
Elana Bailey replied
Excellent idea.

Great building and well shot. I’m from Port Melbourne and going back to the earliest days of the the Melbourne Harbor Trust (now the Port of Melbourne Authority) it was also spelt the US way. I’m not sure when the organisation was created but certainly it was spelt that way in the first half of the 20th Century.
Elana Bailey replied
David, many thanks for that information and also for stopping by. Cheers Elana.
Elana Bailey replied
Many thanks indeed and also for adding this one to your favs. Cheers Elana.
