New beginnings, Ica by

On 15 August 2007 a major earthquake devastated the Peruvian cities of Pisco, Ica , Chincha and Cañete. More than 100,000 homes were destroyed or condemned and over 650,000 people were affected.

In the months afterwards, local and international aid agencies came to the assistance of those affected. This house, being built here by one of the families affected, will be home to seven or more people. It was provided by a church organisation based in Lima with labour from Hands On Disaster Response (HODR) and local people.

It represents a new beginning for a family who had lost everything.
