This is a sketch I made in 1976 using charcoal pencil on Strathmore sketch paper. It is of the Chuck Wagon that is located at the Johnson Settlement in Johnson City Texas. Lyndon Johnson’s grandfather and great-uncle established a cattle droving headquarters on the Johnson Settlement in the 1860s. Their log cabin and subsequent barns, cooler house, and windmill are still there. This chuckwagon
and longhorn cattle can be seen displayed there as well. We lived there in Johnson City, while my husband was the Park Ranger (Law Enforcement and Fire Specialist) for the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Site. Our sons use to enjoy chatting with Ava Cox (President Johnson’s cousin) when she was part of the living history program at the Settlement. LBJ is burried a few feet away from his birthplace.
