Artist's Description

This piece is an expression of the changing nature of Christianity. Rather than being focused on religious teachings and a righteous way of life, it has instead turned to scaremongering to recruit followers, caring more about recruitment rather than the message it once taught.

The image of Christ has been decayed both in the piece and in the church, and I have deliberately made the figure of christ seem ill-focused in the way that the church has lost sight of Christ’s ways and is instead causing fear.

The black crucifix in the picture is my own, a Swarovski necklace. I have used this to show that the image of the crucifix has become more of a fashion item than an icon of remembrance.

I want people to see this and in turn think about the role religion has in society.
