Thanks heaps guys! I did this for my boyfriend about two years ago. It took me about three months of about three hours a day. I thought it was a gone-er when, as I was drawing I could hear a strange noise above my head in the garage. It sounded like the sheet of plastic lining the roof was being walked upon by little paws. There was a loud ripping noise and before I knew it there was a cat right before me on top of my sketch pad, stuff tipped everywhere and a big dark mark in the middle of my half-finished drawing.
Luckily (for my sanity) i was able to fix it.

This is fabulous. I do a little drawing myself as well as other things and I know how hard it is to do portraits and get the lovely tonal range and 3D effect you have here. Well done

Thanks so much guys, it means so much to hear such great comments. I love drawing it just takes SOOO long to do pieces like this and apparently they’re not worth too much unless you are a known artist already.
I have to fix up this scan a bit then it will look as good as I think it should. I’ll do that soon, but I’m so glad you like it. Thanks SOOO much guys. xx

Thanks guys. Am working on a better image of this cos the scan takes away from it i think. I love that you all like it as I am always a bit worried about the fact that some people may think they may as well have a photo if i’m making a photo ‘copy’. I just like doin it though.

This is a sensational take on a classic pose. I’ve only seen photographs of this pose before, but this is new and unique (to me anyway). Absolutely sensational work.

I swear I thought That was a PICTURE, A PHOTO!! AWESOME! I wish I could draw Portraits as well!!!

Superb work, and such dedication to a single piece – my patience would have broken long before it was finished!

You’ll have to do one of a potted plant if you want us to concentrate on the pencil technique :-) Only a woman could do this drawing without her hand trembling as she drew. It’s fantastic how you have made this come to life. This would be a great example to use in an article showing how far pencil techniques can go – I think you have got pretty close to the higher limits of perfection where pencil drawing is concerned.

Pencil is definately my strong point and judging by the comments on red bubble I think i’ll be doing some more in the near future! It all started when my mum said i was too young to learn drawing from a book when I was about eight and that it was too hard. I guess i just wanted to prove her wrong. I love spending three hours mapping out the course of one eye and getting all the lashes just right.

Great work Emma, you can see your passion in your interpretation of this pose. Your pencil work is so delicate. Create whatever makes you happy!!!!

Wow! I do pencil sketching and this sketch is so much more like a fine art painting. But I read in your comments how long you spent on it and so it becomes more credible. Such patience! But it’s the result that matters isn’t it? It all becomes worth it when you have something you can look at and feel that pride of craftsmanship.
