To wake up and look at the morning dew,
And to see the sun rising up ahead.
A breath of fresh air makes me feel brand new,
And the brand new day, I no longer dread.
As the sun hits its peak in the blue sky,
Clouds flow past like colourless candyfloss.
Birds whistle a joyful chorus up high,
And the light reflections make the land gloss.
As the sun melts into the far landscape,
From yellow to orange, to red, to bed.
Colourful ribbons binding the earths shape,
But nights shaddows are creeping up ahead.
As darkness falls we lay and shut our eyes,
Dream of tomorrow and its new sunrise.
I wrote this to help bail my brother out of his English homework when he was at school. He was asked to write a sonnet about the day and he is no great fan of poetic writing. So as a great sister, I ended up doing it for him! He got a 10/A and ‘Well done Matt’ for it – so he officially owes me! :-)
