For Stretch

Today a few hours ago I went to the animal welfare league with my family to drop off some blankets we did not need. I am a huge dog person and being there among the hows, yelps and barks really had a major effect on me. This is the situation how it is. . .

Makes me think that all pet owners should be registered and tested if they are rightful owners. Too many animals are put down, it’s just fucked. Sorry for the French but it’s the harsh reality.

For Stretch belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical and TAFE Colleges

Desperate whimpers greet you from their derelict concrete dens
Occupied only by unwanted blankets and a water dish
Brown eyes unblinking almost as if without hope
Placid compared to other neglected gallow dwellers
Violently replicating the treatment they were bestowed
Ribcages evident, lampshade necklaces adorned
To resist him from chewing at the already depleted frame
Deformed features due to bad breeding prove to be the final crux
Barely standing on deformed paws
Supported by weak legs and diminished appetite
He gazes at me with almost hollow optimism
But as my eyes water he intuitively slumps again
He knows that I cannot retrieve him
Further accepting life “on the farm”
I just hope he knows how hard it was to walk away
