Follow the Leader
A social observation of people in my class, at my college and around my life. It’s quite sad that I reffer to my own generation as ‘kids’ sometimes. “Kids these days” and the like.
I seperate my self from that though, I have never really felt like I fit in with people my own age. I do not know what differs me from them, but it’s there, a barrier that is a stubborn as I am.
Less motivated to care
Only motivated to appear less motivated
How overrated today’s generation are
Too soon outdated
Exhausted from being overstated
Exasperated expectations
Followed by dire implications
If you stray from the flock
Strict stipulations
Secure minimal implications
When concerning individuality
Safe from inflictions
Herded in jurisdiction
Which makes me wonder?
Why is it so hard finding one’s footing
When the guidelines are easily set
Follow the leader

Hmm. I like this one. =]
I reckon young people these days (and I say this as a “young person”) put to much pressure on themselve ot be distinctly inividual.
Individual like everyone else…
I often find that people who aren’t trying to follow any trends, who are happy in their own skin, and who are living their life to the best of their abilities, are the ones who I feel most comfortable around.
It bothers me to see so many people my age trying to be something they’re not just to fit in. I personally couldn’t be happier with who I am and what my life is all about.
Anyway sorry I went on a tiny bit of a rant.
Wonderful writing Andrew.
I really like it. =]
God Bless,
Megan

Thank you Megan for such a lovely comment.
I am only young still too… (20) and I see the world in similar ways. This poem is an observation I made while I was in High School, and I think it’s very true when it comes to defining our generations.
I hold myself proud in knowing that I am one of a few rare people who genuinley grew up uninfluenced by fads and peer pressure. May seem a bit vain but coming from a pretty rough Hgh School I think it’s something to be proud about. At our age I think it’s independance that is the most rewarding feeling.
You’re a bright One Megan
I am looking forward to see what inspires you next.
