Redeye’s essential and ever-popular workshop on getting started in photography returns in March and April. It comes in two flavours with a small amount of overlap, and is aimed at people who are about to start trading or have started in the last year or so.
1: Projects and Art Photography: 10am-5pm, 12th March 2008
This event is aimed at those who want to make a living from exhibiting or publishing self-generated projects, including documentary or art photography; or obtain public art commissions. The day will give an overview of the current market and typical career paths, and then look at marketing yourself, including how to present your work; sources of funding and what the funders will expect; what makes a successful Arts Council funding application, and how to build up productive relationships with galleries.
2: Commercial / Editorial Photography: 10am-5pm, 9th April 2008
This event is aimed primarily at those intending to work in editorial, commercial and general commissioned and stock photography. It covers business setup and marketing, websites and portfolios – all the essential steps in commissions, paperwork, copyright, fees, and recent developments in stock photography. Particularly suitable for anyone who is about to start, or has recently commenced, working in photography and intends to make a living from it.
Both events: Waterside Arts Centre, Sale, Greater Manchester
Tickets £17.50 (full) £12.50 (conc) per event. More info and booking:
