Algae Takes Over
I’ve been having trouble keeping the tank clean, I think I feed the fishies too much and that brings algae.

Hey Ellen…Nice Photo! I’m an Aquatic Life Specialist for PETCO for almost 8 years now…Green Algae is a lighting issue, either from sun, or your tank light. they should be changed every six months to a year. Don’t use chemicals. that can hurt your fish, even tho they make them. Goldfish are dirty little buggers so keeping up with them isa job for sure! ;) Congrats on your feature!

Wow, great advice. Yes, the tank is in a window but there are shades that filter some light plus the tank light is on sometimes. I have tried chemicals and they don’t work but good to know they aren’t needed. I’d hate to add stuff that isn’t very natural. The algae has cleared up and the fish seem healthy. I have an algae eater guy in there and he seems to help too. Thanks so much for the input, nice to hear some professional opinions. THANKS!!
