I was inspired to do this translation by the sheer look of hopelessness in the face of the ‘Big Man’ (and even in his pose). This I instantaneously related to, and as a result, I decided to transform the bare, cold, and barren walls into a talisman for the Big Man’s recovery.
This is also a story within a story, as aptly quoted by Frannie’s comment here:* " a child amazed at the largeness of a “human”, and our enchantment with the idea of creative imagination of the statue’s artist, and the artist’s tiny audience of one, under five years old, bound in amazement! But you go deeper, into the already three dimensional space, and tell another story about the art on the back wall, the backdrop of life, so to speak— history, shifting cultures, escape from the danger of one country to the relative safety of another; what is one man’s history is really the world’s history. And you anchor this story, figuratively and literally, with a candle of hope, chaining the two stories together, allowing us to draw analogies about the largess of mankind".*
Using color, form, and symbolism to evoke the following:
The feather: celestial wisdom, encouragement, and progress.
Dove: is a symbol of peace and a comforting spirit
Candle: symbolizes light, hope, attainment of enlightenment, and a guiding tool
The Three figures: represent the past, present, future, and bearers of good news and gifts.
The Anchor: Also symbolizes hope.
And on the road (to recovery) you will see these transitional animals, from the;
Snail, fragile and weak; to
Lizard, resilient and adaptive; to the
Elephant, strong, defensive, & wise.
This has been a very enjoyable and a fulfilling translation for me personally and I hope that you will found it enjoyable too.
