Medicine

Like so many others, in my younger days I had an idea that i might be able to use words and music to spew my angst out onto the world. My best friend, who had similar ideas was at this time away studying, but would from time to time send me lyrics to work on or maybe to build some semblance of a tune around. This continued for quite a number of years, but again like so many others, the words we wrote rarely went beyond the rooms they were written in. Eventually we began to give eachother single words or phrases where the challenge was to create something semi coherent around that word or phrase. The phrase I was given to include in this piece of writing was “Elementary my dear Watson”. I should apologise for any possibly mysogynistic sounding content, for the fear of being painted in a bad light but in my defence, i had just come out of a long term relationship and was just a tad disappointed by how I had been treated!

Are you lonely?

‘Cos if you’re lonely then use my imagination

Yes you’re only

One call away from galaxy and flagellation

A little piece of you should keep me alive

As long as I’m at home for quarter to five

I sell my soul to anyone who provides the medicine that I need

Not much been happening here

I heard a rumour on a belly full o’ beer

I got a woman in the room next door

And I don’t know what the hell I’m doing it for

It’s not as if I ever wanted to be

A moral guardian for the century

But it’s so much better when I close my eyes

And I kid myself she’s a supermodel supermodel

And in the morning it’s a terrible fright

To realise Medusa kissed me goodnight

But there’s no chance of losing my appetite

For the medicine that I need

With satisfaction guaranteed…Are you the medicine I need?
With satisfaction guaranteed…Are you the medicine I need?

Elementary

My dear what’s on my mind is sweeping ‘cross the nation

But no entry

Until you’ve given way to sweet gentle persuasion

And when you’re smiling are you just being kind?

Inside I’m tortured though you don’t seem to mind

That I’ll be on that train the moment I find

The medicine that I need

Come on..are you the medicine?

With satisfaction guaranteed…Are you the medicine I need?
With satisfaction guaranteed…Are you the medicine I need?

So when I hurt you does it play on your mind?

Oh do those lacerations tingle with spite?

Please keep a civil tongue ‘til I’ve been prescribed

The medicine that I need
