Ever since I can remember my life has been surrounded by art. My father is a sculptor, my mother is a art teacher and each have impacted of my creative life.
From a young age my fascination with representing my inner thoughts visually has prompted me to create works of art. My journey began with the somewhat “physical medium" of drawing and painting.
After years of failing to accurately perceive and create my inner thoughts as an art form, I found my true passion. Photography. Through the eye of the camera I found the ability to truly represent my understanding visually of how I view and conceptualise the world around me. By immersing my self in digital photography and image construction I have the ability to conceptualise and create images which are only limited by my thoughts and fantasies.
My works present a contrast between tone, texture and composition which attempt to share how my eye perceives the world .
I find my ideas from every where, whether it’s the shadow on a car door or the water from a giant water fall. I find my inspiration mainly comes from contrast and the colours of the world around me.
Photography to me is really a “canvas? which presents my ideas and understanding of the visual world. I find that the photo almost becomes secondary to the idea and the “atmosphere? of the shot. My photos begin with a composition and end with a sense of atmosphere which is complementary to the raw photo. I prefer to paint or colour an image, as I feel that every photograph has points which need to be highlighted or changed so that it then becomes a work of art and not just a recorded image. By using digital media I have the ability to create and find the essence of the idea I’m attempting to portray in the photograph.
