Kookaburra - Kingfisher family, good hunters by

This bird sat on this pole for a long time after a storm so probably a little battered but after a long rest he took off. He didn’t mind his picture being taken, at the Grampians Mountain Range.Commonly called Laughing Jackass because of its laughing habit

Well done, they don’t seem too shy do they?

  • This one wasn’t shy at all, but he didn’t want to fly but did so eventually. Not very old I don’t think. Shirley

Isn’t he a sweetie. Used to sing the Kookaburra song as a kid, but never seen one before. Nice clear shot…Jules

  • He just sat there moving a little and back, we guessed that he had been knocked around with the storm. Taken at the Grampians Mountain Range back in 07. Shirley

This is like TOTALLY cool! There are other pictures of this bird here in Red Bubble but none captivated me like this one. :-D I’m almost ashamed to say it but I’d rather happy this bird got slowed down a bit for you to take this incredible shot.

Looks like this bird is simply not designed to stand well on flat surfaces. LOL! Sorta like a very fuzzy penguin with talons.

  • You are quite right they usually perch in a tree and come in other colours, this bird was really knocked up but after a long rest flew into the trees on the edge of the park..he was ever so obliging. I have some from other angles but liked this one the best. Thanks so much for coming by. Shirley
