HMAS Castlemaine - Gem St. Pier, Williamstown. Vic by

HMAS Castlemaine is one of the sixty Australian-built Bathurst Class corvettes to serve throughout World War II, and is the last such vessel still afloat, having been restored by volunteers over four decades.

HMAS Castlemaine is open to the public on weekends, public holidays and by arrangement. Visitors can see how crews lived and worked during the war years, witness the original main engines turning over, and view a wide range of artefacts documenting Australian maritime history.

Dedicated to all the men who sailed on her.

Very nice Shirley. It was a lovely ship

  • Thank you Polly, I had a full length of it but the sun ruined it. If you look it up in search it gives some good views of the hull and what is in it….Worth a visit on open day I think, next time you come down Polly.

    Hugs, Shirley

Shirley I served aboard the USS Midway CV-41 now a peace of history. Love your ship pictures it brings back memories of long ago.

  • Hello Tom & welcome, it looks good and if you add HMAS Castlemaine to SEARCH, it has a good coverage of it from top to bottom. I had a full length one but the sun caught it and ruined the picture.

I remember all of WW!!, lived close to HMAS Cerberus Naval College in Crib Point Vic.I was only a youngster but listened intently when they would visit and talk with Mum & Dad. A lot of them never returned from the sea, I am sad to say. Many of them were on the Sydney when it went down…..Thank you for coming by Tom. Anytime you are welcome. Shirley.
