Cleared for TakeOff by

A honeybee (<em>Apis mellifera</em>)- European or Western honeybee, right before she lifts off a common sunflower (<em>Helianthus annuus</em>) to return to the hive. Worker bees who have filled their ‘time card’ in working in the hive are sent to spend the remainder of their lives as foragers (pollen seekers). Worker bees are all female. The males are called Drones. They have neither ovipositors nor stingers. Their purpose is believed to serve as the hives ‘HVAC team’. The non-stop beating of their wings provide the hive with internal environmental control: cooling in summer when activity is greatest.
